Theatre
During the Elizabethan Era, Theatre, especially plays by William Shakespeare (left), were becoming very popular. The Globe Theatre, pictured above, was where many of his plays were held. He wrote tragedies, histories, and comedies. People of all social classes went to see plays, and they were very inexpensive to see.
Portraits/Paintings
There are many portraits of Queen Elizabeth I. These paintings, in addition to being of her commission, convey the power and aspirations of the state. Oftentimes she is portrayed with symbolic objects such as prayer books, swords, and the moon (purity). These portraits were considered very important to the state because the demonstrated the majesty and significance that the people felt they owed towards their queen.
Architecture
One of the most famous pieces of architecture from Elizabethan England is the Globe Theatre. Other examples of what the architecture looked like were the Longleat house. Typical examples of what the architecture looked like were large, square, and tall houses with brown boards running across a lighter background.
